World’s largest social change platform launches in Hindi on Gandhi Jayanti

New Delhi: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Change.org, the world’s largest platform for social change, launches its website in Hindi, in a move designed to “open up the digital campaigning space to crores of Indian citizens.

Preethi Herman, country lead of Change.org India’s, said: “Launching Change.org Hindi on Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary is the biggest tribute to the concept that every person can create positive social change. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi pioneers the Digital India initiative, it is crucial for the digital space to be available in regional languages. We are excited to be opening up the digital campaigning space in Hindi to crores of Indian citizens.”

With thirty lakh users and more than 350 impactful campaigns in India, Change.org has proven that digital people power is having a real impact in India – and being available in Hindi makes the potential for even greater impact.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, member of Parliament, who has started two campaigns on Change.org, said: “I launched a petition on the Voting Rights of Armed Forces Personnel. With over 60,000 people signing it, we won, helping our soldiers exercise their constitutional right to vote. Success of several petitions started on Change.org have reinforced that the website is an excellent way to mobilise citizens and to wake the establishment and decision makers to them. Making Change.org available in Hindi allows a large number of Indians to also participate in their quest for change and transformation.”

Politicians Shashi Tharoor, Milind Deora, Baijayant Panda, Kirron Kher and celebrities Farhan Akhtar, Sonakshi Sinha, Anushka Sharma, Rahul Bose, Lisa Ray and Alia Bhatt have either started or supported campaigns on Change.org.

Chief minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal said: “I wish Change.org good luck with its Hindi platform. This is a good opportunity for more and more people to engage with decision makers real time. The Aam Aadmi Party believes that the government can function effectively only if it is in sync with common people. A platform like Change.org Hindi will enable lakhs of people to engage with democracy and I welcome this initiative.”
