TALAKONA WATERFALLS

Talakona Waterfalls is situated approximately 49 km from Tirupati, in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. The gorgeous waterfall falling deep into a valley from a height of around 270 feet makes it the highest waterfall in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Positioned in Sri Venkateswara National Park, Talakona Waterfalls are believed to be the threshold to the hills of Tirumala, starting from Seshachalam Hills.

People living in the area believe that the water of Talakona Waterfalls has immense therapeutic power, since it flows through a lot of herbs enriched with medicinal values. Situated close to this waterfall is a small temple dedicated to Lord Siddeswara Swamy. The temple is usually crowded by devotees during the festival of Shivaratri, which is a very popular event in this region. Placed amidst dense forest, the waterfall offers lush green surroundings and natural beauty. Due to the extensive range of flora found in the region, the area was declared a Biosphere Reserve during 1989-90.

The site provides a 240 meter long ropeway to give you a thrilling experience while walking. One can choose from a number of trek routes, the best route that suits you. There are also several caves dotted over the mountains where it is believed that sages meditate perpetually. This enchanting picnic spot is sure to delight you when in Tirupati.

There is a temple near the falls called Lord Siddeswara Swamy Temple. This temple is believed to be built by a devotee named Appa Swamy in 1811 AD. This Temple Attracts large number of devotees during Mahashivaratri.

The falls have to be reached by 2 Kms trek from Siddeswara Swamy Temple which is nearest motorable road to the falls. The duration of the trek is about 30 minutes (one way) through dense forest and slippery road.

Best time to visit:

November to January is the best season to visit. There are several private transport facilities to Talakona Falls from Bakarapeta, which has direct bus services from Tirupati and Chittore.
