Panchgani

Panchgani also called Paachgani is a famous hill station and municipal council in Satara district in Maharashtra, India.

Panchgani is christened based on ‘Panch” as it is surrounded by five hills of sahyadri, and “Gani” meaning settlement. This all season hill station elevated at 1305 meters above sea level and beaing an area of 6 sq. km is located 18 km eats of Mahabaleshwar on Mahabaleswear Wai road on the heavy rain and fog. it is also shielded from the east wind by a larger extant of Table-land.

The magnificent scenery of Krishna Valley from West to East with its numerous hamlets, cultivated fields and picturesque view of the backwater of Dhom Dam can be seen along the whole northern ridge of the mountain.

Hours can be spent at the bazaar – Panchgani is one of those rare places that doesn’t crowd anyone yet in its own unhurried way deeply touches every visitor.

By Air:

Nearest airport is Pune, 98 kms.

By Rail:

Nearest railhead is Wathar, 45 kms om Miraj-Kolhapur section of South Central Railway. However convenient railhead is Pune.

By Bus:

Mumbai-Panchgani via Pune, 270 kms. Mumbai Panchgani via Mahad, 266 kms. State Transport buses ply from Satara, Pune, Wai, Mahabaleshwar, Mahad tp Panchgani.

Best time to visit Panchgani:

September to May is peak tourist season and a less popular and diff. kind of fun is during the monsoon when the hills are greenest.
